Concrete is a composite material composed of coarse granular material (the aggregate or filler) embedded in a hard matrix of material (the cement or binder) that fills the space among the aggregate particles and glues them together. Concrete is the most used manmade material in the world. Concrete has been around for centuries and is an integral part of every civilization. Concrete’s versatility, durability, and economy have made it the world’s most used construction material.Concrete’s properties make it the building material of choice for most purposes. As it is the necessary part of the building construction we must assure about its quality. So to satisfy the quality criteria it is important to learn about the concrete tests. As it the important part of human life and ultimately to the civil engineering it must be learned in proper way.
Here is some list of experiments which we perform to enhance their knowledge about concrete with the use of advance techniques.
Tests on concrete:-
- Fineness of cement
- Soundness of cement
- Consistency and setting time of the cement
- Compressive strength of cement
- Sieve analysis of aggregate
- Workability by slump cone test
- Workability by compaction factor test
- Compressive strength of concrete
As s a sub discipline of soil science, pedology consists of an accepted body of laws and theories that cover a range of related ideas and concepts. We have traced the history of these concepts as they pertain to the definition of the soil; soil horizons, profiles, and pedons; soil-forming factors; pedogenic processes; soil classification; soil geography and mapping, and soil–landscape relationships.
The presented concepts have proven to be useful in our careers and are offered here to generate discussion in the pedology community. Because of space limitations, we have not attempted to critique these concepts. The concepts identified here are useful not only for understanding the development of pedology, but also for identifying future areas of research and providing a frame of reference from which pedologists can evaluate potential scientific contributions to a rapidly changing world.
Laboratory Facilities:-
- Determination of field moisture content of soil
- Determination of bulk density and dry density of soil by core cutter method

Surveying is useful for preparing engineering maps & drawings. Field survey can be professionally carried out only various steps involved in the survey work are known with skills of operating modern survey equipment.
In Advanced surveying, Students will be learning the advance surveying methods & techniques using modern equipment. To achieve know how of operation and handling of various advanced survey instruments like Theodolite, Digital Theodolite, Tachometer, Total Station, EDM Instruments, etc. should be known. In this course these kinds of performance oriented abilities will be developed which are expected from a civil technician.
Surveying instruments:-
- Trough Compass
- Prismatic Compass
- Plane Table Board
- Dumpy level
- Verniar Theodolite
- Total Station
- EDM
Transportation has been one of the essential areas within civil engineering since its early days. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of ASCE, this is a review of developments in research, education, and practice in transportation engineering. The review is based primarily on the issues of the Transportation Engineering over the past several decades. Main topics include transportation engineering practice, airport and highway pavements and materials, design and safety, planning and operations, pipelines, technology, and education. The transportation engineering is played most important role in civil engineering. This is a sub branch of civil engineering. In Transportation Engineering various Materials are used like bituminous, Aggregate etc. and also required testing of materials.
Tests offered in Transportation:-
- On Bitumen
- Flash & Fire Test
- Softening point Test
- Penetration Test etc…
- On Aggregate
- Impact Test
- Crushing Test
- C.B.R. Test etc.
Applied mechanics is a branch of the physical sciences and the practical application of mechanics. Applied mechanics examines the response of bodies (solids and fluids) or systems of bodies to external forces. Within the theoretical sciences, applied mechanics is useful in formulating new ideas and theories, discovering and interpreting phenomena, and developing experimental and computational tools. The advances and research in Applied Mechanics has wide application in many departments. Some of the departments that put the subject into practice are Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Structural engineering. Prof. S. Marichamy said that “Mechanics is the study of bodies which are in motion or rest condition under the action of Forces”
Tests offered in Applied Mechanics:-
- Equilibrium of coplanar concurrent forces
- Equilibrium of coplanar concurrent forces
- Equilibrium of coplanar parallel forces: Determination of reactions of simply supported beam
- Work-out M.A & Efficiency of Simple purchase crab , simple wheel and axle , simple screw jack
- Calculate Co efficient of Sliding Friction for different surfaces – Wood , Glass
- Determination of coefficient of static friction using inclined plane
- Calculate Centroid of lamina and Centroid of different sections
